They are quick....but so are squirrels!

My neighbour told me that he had been sitting outside, surveying his garden ( more like an estate ) , watching a group of woodpigeons feeding on his lawn. Some distance beyond them was a sparrowhawk sitting in a tree in his garden. It was immobile for quite some time, until it decided

to make a sortie and flew down to the pigeons, but, having frightened them rigid, it returned to its perch in the tree! He thought it had probably already had dinner, and its eyes were bigger than its belly, so it cried off.:-)

Speaking of sparrowhawks,I found a dead one in my garden almost exactly 2 years ago,

Canon PowerShot SX170 IS f/4.5 : Speed 1/100 : ISO 100 : Lens Unknown 5-80mm
just below one of the conservatory windows. I could only assume that it had flown into

Canon PowerShot SX170 IS f/4.0 : Speed 1/200 : ISO 100 : Lens Unknown 5-80mm

Canon PowerShot SX170 IS f/4.5 : Speed 1/125 : ISO 100 : Lens Unknown 5-80mm

the window and broken its neck.

Probably. Lovely bird…great shame.

They’ve had some narrow misses on our patio doors, especially when the prey slammed into it first.

This one* veered off onto the bird table and looked at the dead dove behind some pots. She flew off when I went to the window and I threw the dead dove onto the lawn. She never came back for it…the crows took it!

Thx. I thought they were pinks flying over until I looked at the photo closely in Photoshop.

Tried again this morning to video this flight, this time perched on 3m steps leaning against the garage......

It's bl**dy hard hand holding the 600mm steady enough for video. I was moving about more than the birds!!!!

Decided to give up the idea of videoing until I can work off a tripod at ground level. That will mean a trip to the estuary as there's too much urban foreground at ground level here.

Grabbed some stills at least.

after a lot of recent wheeling and dealing I have now sold the 500mm f4 , the 200-400 f4 as they were to heavy for me , I also decided to get rid of the tamron 150-600 as it was not quiet right ?  anyway I took a chance and bought a cheap grade 6 nikon 200-500 f5.6 VR from wex just to have a usable zoom , imagine my surprise on Friday when opening the box to find what I can only describe as a mint condition lens for around half the normal used price . had a few hours out with it over the weekend and very pleased with the results .heres a couple of redshanks taken in gale force winds hand held

It is always a great feeling to open what was described as just acceptable to find a pristine lens. I lucked out with a 80-400 from MPB a while back.
