I thought the D810 and d850 are using CF / SD cards , but SQD and CFast ??...or is it a custom job ?
The Nikon D850 has two memory card slots and supports the following types:
1. XQD cards – high-speed, robust cards designed for professional use (fast write speeds, good for 4K video and high FPS shooting).
2. SD cards – compatible with UHS-II SD, SDHC, and SDXC cards.

With the latest firmware the D850, D500 and D5 can use CFexpress cards but, big but, the read and write speed is limited by the camera's hardware. The speed benefit only affects read speed when used with a card reader and a suitable computer. The D850 firmware required for CFe cards is 1.20 D850 firmware

There's no in camera benefit in using CFexpress cards and there might be a slower write speed when doing so. An XQD reader will almost certainly NOT read CFe cards nor, unless specifically stated, will a CFe reader read XQD cards.

I have version 1.31 on the 850 and have gone for the CFexpress cards - got a good deal on a 64gb one at £55.

Waiting for the CFe reader to arrive - meantime I am copying over to the SD card in camera to transfer to the PC - I find the Snapbridge link somewhat unreliable and very slow!

CFe reader arrived - it is USB 3.2 and downloads a 12mb image file in less than a second. Bursts of 5/6 shots take a couple of seconds to buffer in camera  - more to the point it transfers 150 10/12mb files to the pc ssd in a blink of an eye - I think this will do me just fine!

I will need to see how it performs on video, shame it isn't possible to use my Sony E mount video lenses on the 850.

…With sound.;-)

I have to say that for recording events video is far better than stills.

Jan has a DJI Osmo Action 4 on the handle bar of her mobility scooter and records the whole outing….till she forgets to pause it and runs out of storage space.

She zooms in (hops off) and uses her iPhone close up for detail stuff, both stills and video periodically. It’s great fun stitching the whole lot together with some of my stills. Not going to win awards but a nice reminder of what was seen AND heard on the day.
