For Time Lapse photography, unlike video, the D800 camera takes a series of stills at a pre-settable interval and assembles them into an MPEG4 video on the fly, if the battery expires before the camera is stopped or reaches the preset length, the file found will be a complete, viable MPEG4 file.  Video, I assume uses an electronic shutter.

I don't have an understanding of the various shutter options on the D800, I have heard mention of electronic shutter but I don't understand the ins and outs involved.  What I am concerned about is the shutter count will become very high, quite quickly if I use the D800 intensively for time lapse photography.  Presumably an electronic shutter has no moving parts therefore won't wear out?

Can anybody suggest how I can avoid using the mechanical shutter when doing time lapse please?
