I have a couple of hundred images I took at a nursery nativity play just before Christmas. I have been going through them again fine tuning them. How do I deal with this in Lightroom, I don't have Ps on my laptop, so I don't have the fine tools to edit this out. Attachment: Girls eye.jpg (Downloaded 30 times)

Taken with the D3100 18-105 VR, hand held no flash in very mixed daylight and fluorescent lighting. The entire image... Does it even matter? Attachment: Girl.jpg (Downloaded 30 times)

BTW I got the slightly dreamy look by reducing the 'presence' setting, which seems to be a sort of sharpen control but I think it also increases edge contrast. I rather like it (on the right image).

Can't answer your question Robert but I am sure Eric can fix it. I personally think it looks natural. Skin tones change and lighting and shadows happen. You can see them if you look at a persons face. So, you can change her appearance or leave it the way it is but I would leave it. Same with ears and anywhere else the are folds and curves in the skin or body part. Often times I see photos exhibited by photographers who specialize in portraits and they make so many changes the person or child no longer looks real - too perfect. Just my own thoughts Robert - I think the photo is great and I like the effect with the presence setting.

I dont think you need to get rid of the hair but if you must then you need to get Perfect Layers for Lightroom.

What are you trying to edit out Robert? If it's the fine hair that's a bit beyond Lightroom. It can do dust spots and local adjustments, but for fine detail editing you need PS.

Thanks Rich, my grasp of Lightroom editing tools isn't very good, I thought it was worth asking the Q. Anybody I have shown the pic to thinks the hair is OK so I will leave it because eyes are very hard to do well and it would really need to be done first in the process, so it would mean completely re doing the image, not worth it for a thank you job.

I've not really looked at many plugins JK, I have Lightroom and Photoshop so move from one to the other if that's what the image requires. The only plugin I might get is Silver Efex as I'm interested in doing more B&W and reputedly this is very good. I used to use Noise Ninja but since the noise reduction in Lightroom/ACR got so good I haven't bothered with it. In general if I can do something without a plugin I prefer it, although if I was a pro I might get Portrait Pro for speeds sake.
