i know theres quiet a few mac users on here ,and if anyone uses aperture 3 for basic editing ,last nights software upgrade is a real winner .the auto magic wand light balance feature is worth its weight in gold especially to the likes of me that struggles at times due to having to take pics in poor lighting .

Thanks Jeff, I don't have Aperture, though perhaps I should? If only for testing. Somehow I never got on with the original release of Aperture but jelled immediately with Lightroom. I even bought a £2000 G5 tower PowerMac so that I could run Aperture. Silly me.

Version 3 bears little relation to version 1. Also V3 would not run on the G5 tower only intel Macs.

I realise that but once on a ship there is little point in changing unless the experience is so bad that it justifies the pain of jumping to a different ship. My experience with Lr has been very good. I can see nothing in Aperture that would improve my image processing and DAM compared with Lightroom but I think its about time I had a version to test. to sit along side the iPhoto I use for testing. Photo Stream is a very interesting aspect, which needs more exploring.

i use aperture 3 all the time ,the upgrade while being a tad harsh on auto has quite a few nice bits to play with though such a mid tone contrast .and btw robert it now slots in seamlessly with i-photo .if you already have version 1 a upgrade via the apps store might be the way forward ,you also got a new operating system due out shortly ,mountain lion if my memory is right

Not only that, but version 3 is 1/4 the cost of version one!

I can't believe it... I just read the release notes !!! No longer any need to import files !!!! This makes Aperture a REAL contender. I plan to bone up on it for some serious use. Tom

I would double read that Tom, I think that Apple mean iPhoto and Aperture share the same Library and there is no need to import to both. You can use iPhoto as a viewer and Aperture to adjust the same images. The requirement to import the images is one of the major issues I see with Aperture. However, I haven't read the small print yet, that is only my impression from what I have read so far. I recently spent 2 very long days extracting the images from a large iPhoto Library, because it wouldn't export them en masse between versions from one old iMac to a new one. I am not a lover of proprietary library formats! http://www.apple.com/uk/aperture/features/#import The easiest way to import to Aperture would seem to be to drag a folder of images onto the Aperture icon. At £55 it may be a little while before I download Aperture just to satisfy my curiosity. There no longer seems to be a 30 day free trial.
