Yes, been there to that place as well! I now have an alternative (COP V11) and use the old faithful (PC CS6) as well as the new pretender.

I have to say that after a couple of days processing two shoots (from Raw) with Affinity it is a good replacement for Photoshop but it doesn't replace Lightroom in any way. It is very difficult to accurately assess images without opening each one individually as it has no catalogue feature. I have downloaded Bridge, which is free, but it feels like too much of a compromise and increase in workflow. I also find Affinity is very power hungry on the computing front and this means I have to wait for transitions to take place more than I did with Lightroom. It has slowed my workflow down, and sometimes I am not noticing things until well into the edit which I would have seen immediately and corrected (like minor lens distortions). It probably doesn't help that I have just moved to the D800 and am dealing with bigger files with more definition. I have now downloaded a trial of On1 Photo Raw 2018 for 30 days to see if this is better suited. I still like Affinity on the iPad, and I can see uses for it, but more for photoshop than lightroom type edits. I, as an 'right in-camera' type shooter don't really use photoshop that much, it was Lightroom that I used most so I feel there is more work to be done.

I prefer the ON1 result. I use this as well and I like it but what I dont like is having the different presets being offering and so in your face!

Even allowing for the forum software the On1 image has far more detail and tonal range in the rocks and the sky. This seems in line with what I have read elsewhere. Can Affinity access NIK filters? That might be a way of maximising your image potential. For images such as the above the NIK filter suit is ideal as can wring the last vestige of detail and tonal range from the image without making it look like you have. Also the affected area selection method in NIK filters is so easy and controllable. What about Capture One?

I have now purchased On1. The trial was very promising, doing everything I wanted and used in Lightroom, and then they sent me a special holidays offer which was a significant reduction on the usual prices with a number of extras. My defection from Adobe is complete ![]()

Well done Jan, hope it's good long term. If we don't try these things we will never learn or advance ourselves. However, for now at least I am sticking with the Adobe Lightroom - Photoshop combo. I can't garner the effort needed to learn yet more software tricks and routines. I am very happy with Lightroom, Photoshop is there when I need it for the occasional more sophisticated editing. I am also currently wrestling with star stacking software, various panorama software and even focus stacking software, that is challenge enough without contemplating changing my foundation software as well. Lightroom is not just my standard image processor, it's the foundation of my image file system. Currently around 35,000 images. It works very well, I can locate pretty well any image I need in a short time. I still have many negatives and slides to digitise, hopefully over the winter I will get back into that and add to my digital library of photographs to enjoy.

Well done Jan. COP is streets better than LR as a RAW processor and image editor but LR has a better catalog and other twizzles Maps, Web, Books, Slideshow, etc that are very useful. I recommend this book. Comes as book or ebook. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Capture-One-Pro-Development-Processing/dp/1937538818/ref=as_sl_pc_tf_til?tag=fuxfo-21&linkCode=w00&linkId=&creativeASIN=1937538818
