Worth a look, you can get a trial version, and it's now available for PC as well as Mac. I have the iPad version which works great with the Apple Pencil I did download the trial for the desktop but it doesn't have the catalog facility of Lightroom. If they added that I would definitely ditch adobe

Yes it is very good. I am testing as a long term alternative to Photoshop and Lightroom. Also worth taking a look at ON1 PhotoRAW and Luminar if you are on this path.

Have been looking at it but it's not the 'one stop shop' which Lightroom is becoming. Initially I only used the DAM aspects of Lr, but as it has matured I am finding I need to visit Photoshop less and less. Providing levels as it now does for the vast majority of images I can do everything I need in Lr. I much prefer the subscription model. I can see it might have some nice features but it doesn't appear to address the DAM aspect of digital photography which to me is the first box which needs ticking. I don't want a plethora of image processing software to which I turn to one or another programs for specific tasks. It appears to cater for editing and presumably creating 360ยบ panoramas, that would be useful I have seriously intended to get PTgui, in the near future because I want to try creating 360 panoramas, they seem fun and a 'different' way of making photographs by adding that third dimension, movement. I may download Affinity but a month trial isn't enough for me, I am so busy that a month can go by and I don't have time to take, let alone process photographs. No way am I going to fork out 50 quid just to try it out. That's where the subscription model comes in. I wish all software was available on subscription. ![]() JK, since you say you are testing it, could you post your comments and finding here please? That would be very helpful! ![]()

Robert, Go get a trial copy of the new software from ON1 called PhotoRAW 2018 when it comes out in late October/early November. It is everything LR is and will have Layers......... yeah finally someone has listened. This means that you will have an easy to use software with good catalog and fast RAW editing and layers along with HDR etc.... Hint for testing these softwares. Never shoot a new set of images always use a set that you have processed through at least one other software you like and use the same images and see how they come out.

Thanks for the heads-up, will give it a try. jk wrote: Hint for testing these softwares. Thanks. Thinking back, in fact I have done that, although not in the way you suggest, I tried processing the same (fresh) InfraRed images with Lr, Ps and Bibble. Bibble won, for me anyway! Mainly because it made easier and a better job of adjusting the subtle light tones. I also find the 'zone' selection provided by the Nik filters to greatly ease selection for fine adjustments limited to very specific parts of images. Here it's the ease and flexibility of selection, rather than any special feature of the adjustment of the selected parts of the image, if that makes any sense!

Well I finally did it. After 20+ years of Photoshop I've ditched Adobe by cancelling my subscription at renewal and bought Affinity for my mac instead. I will miss keywordd only when I search for things but my folder naming should be sufficient. I may change my file naming procedures slightly in 2018 to compensate further. Don't like to change this close to a year end for consistency.

Well done Jan. Every person who moves away from Adobe makes the case stronger for the removal of compulsorary subscription only policy they operate. I still use PS CS6 (for big edits) and LR v6.13 (for DAM) but I also have Capture One Pro which is a good blend of both the Adobe softwares and it does a great job. BTW I think you can still use LR for catalogs but you need to check the details.

What is stopping you changing Iain. If you can elaborate the questions, issues, problems that you fear then maybe we can help you.

I guess its the fact I have used PS for the past 20+ years and still use it for the work that I still do. So the thought of changing and learning a new software and work flow, weather it will do what I need, I could use it for the wildlife but the Rugby still needs PS as those that I supply have there systems set up for it.
