Hmmm! Looks as if I'd better stick to jpegs for the time being, thus bringing this discussion to an end! Perhaps I might try 64-bit again (Win 7)

I don't think PS recommends that you use your OS drive as a scratch disk. Have you another drive on your system you can use?
