I'm looking for an external monitor for my Macbook Pro. It can support up to 5K resolution (5120x2880). You can spend from $120 to $1300, depending on whether you get HD, 4K, or 5K. $1300 gets you an LG 27 inch 5K.

Here comes the tricky part... $1300 also get you something that works in the P3 color space. I typically use Adobe RGB in Photoshop and struggle to reproduce my old calibrated monitor's look on the CMYK printed page.

Does anyone here have any experience going from the dark old days to a P3 monitor? I could buy two 4K RGB monitors for less $ than the 5K P3 (the Macbook Pro can support two 5K monitors simultaneously).

It was always my understanding that you cannot easily discern the full 4K advantage on a screen smaller than 32"?

I was recently watching some 4K video on a friends 55" supadupa tv and confess could see little difference between it and his 1080 videos. Maybe it was his camera...or maybe my eyes? I've certainly see spectacular footage on commercially prepared promo videos ...so perhaps something was wrong.

But I came away thinking that buying a top end desktop monitor was a waste of money. Of course it depends on your end audience situation.

I always look at Dell monitors as the screens are used by Apple as well. Rebadging!
