Just picked one up and its sorta cool . plan to use it this weekend will have a better idea and eval then .. BUT need a tripod for a trip to oregon and dont have the space for a traditional tri pod

They work for small light cameras or flashes but I'd hesitate to put a DSLR on one.

jk wrote: They work for small light cameras or flashes but I'd hesitate to put a DSLR on one. You can get ones beefed up for DSLRs but I have never had the need to try one. I use the gorilla pods for flash guns that I clamp to a bit of furniture (out of shot) to get lighting into corners etc.

i know the limitations on them but there is no way I can pack a tripod on this trip . this one is rated to 6 lbs roughly..

I didnr realise they had a range of gpods that went up to 6lbs. That must be quite a beefy gorilla!

I have handled their top of the range aluminum tripod and it is a very nice piece of gear, if you get a chance you should have alook at one

Had a look at the joby site and see what you mean. Also the designs are all very similar so there is a lack of scale when you see them on a web page.
