Chris, re: does Yes, I use an older aftermarket unit (MicNova) to get GPS directly info my NEF files. In general any cable that connects the unit to the camera is a hassle, regardless of the brand. Some more modern units attach to the 10-pin port directly, I have seen one and it seemed equally vulnerable. Regards, Gilbert

Gilbert Sandberg wrote:Chris, Thanks - yes that is one of the ones I was considering - why they can't make the cable the right length and even shaped to minimise snagging, I really don't know!

Yes almost all the time especially when I am traveling. I have two units. An older GeoPic II which only has 10 pin cable. Micnova that works on all my cameras as it has a detachable cable that I can change between the Nikon 10 pin or other custom interfaces. Dont know if it will work with the D90 that you have but it should as these are standard interfaces. Micnova would work on your D90. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Micnova-Gps-N-Plus-Geotagger-Gps-System-With-N1N3-Cable-For-Nikon-D3-D3S-D3X/283223471532?hash=item41f16f35ac:g:LBMAAOSw~ydbzjGp:rk:4:pf:1&frcectupt=true

Chris, re: cable the right length The snag is: different cameras may have a different optimum-length for the cable. A note (I agree with JK): When buying take care you get a unit with both cables (10 pin and mini-USB) so you can connect it to all Nikon DSLR's. Regards, Gilbert

There is no right angle plug for the body in the new connector style.

This is a popular option, it allows total* control of most Nikon cameras. https://www.foolography.com/shop/product/unleashed/ It uses the GPS info from your smart phone. * Most shooting functions, except of course manual settings.
