I didnt realise this until yesterday that Apple iPads and iPad Mini, need to be purchased with Cellular functionality to have GPS built in.

From the Apple website:   It does have GPS capability IF it has cellular ... you don't have to activate cellular, but you DO have to have it.

This seems crazy (to me) that this isnt more advertised as part of the extra functionality in the Cellular model of an iPad or iPad Mini.

I just bought a new iPad Pro but being me I didnt want it to pay for something I didnt use.  How stupid do you look trying to use the iPad as a phone!!  Yes I know there is the internet browsing over 4G/LTE.

I have to admit I wasn't aware, both my iPhone (obviously!) and my iPad are cellular so I hadn't noticed. Can't Maps find your location via wi-fi?

What do you think of the iPad Pro? I take it it's the larger one...

Yes but the real winner is to be able to travel with and iPad (cellular version) and have GPS. I discovered this when I was in UK last week but needed to research how my location was being discovered when I had no active SIM and no wifi connection.

This is why I think Apple should make more of this in their selling details for the different models.

I might be missing the point, but if you've got a phone with you, why not just use the gps off that and forget the iPad?

Yes but then you are using two powered devices.

My point is that Apple are missing a marketing trick by not highlighting that GPS is intrinsic in the cellular models, which is very unlike them.
