I have had a few occasions when, during writing or replying, I needed to visit the gallery or home page to check an EXIF, and when I get back to where I thought my post was------ it's gone How do I save a draft copy? I am obviously missing a trick here.

I will let Chris answer this one.

Yes it is possible - I built a routine to solve that on one of the other fora - some time ago now, I'll have to rake back and find it.

I just checked - the editor autosave function is working here so you should be able to just go back to the post you were writing and find it intact - as you write in the editor it saves the post to your local storage
- write something in the editor and then right click and select Inspect (Q)
- select Storage on the top menubar of the new window that opened at the bottom of the screen
- then select Local Storage on the left menu
- then the line for nikondslr.uk and you should see two or three lines which show the current contents of the local store
- any text you have typed in an editor box should be here in a condensed form.
The software uses this to populate the editor box IN THE SAME THREAD ONLY when you return later

The ability to read exif in the gallery itself seems to have stopped. Is that deliberate ?

No - looks like something has changed in the PHP exif reader - I'll investigate ...

Now sorted - no idea why the gallery view was treating file paths the way it was - not one of the bits I wrote!
