Squirrel in garden this morning had a go from bedroom window with the new lens on D810 at 400mm VR on 800ISO 1/160sec at f8, hand held. It was quite small in frame and zoomed image in Photoshop to 50% and cropped to this pix. Attachment: Squirrel.jpg (Downloaded 63 times)

Turnstone at Titchfield Haven Reserve with lens wide open in failing light this evening. 400mm VR on hand held 1/320sec f5.6 1250 ISO Nikon D810 Lens works well and this again is part of image only. Attachment: Turnstone236.jpg (Downloaded 51 times)

Very good zones of sharpness in that last image. See the left side wall OOF, then the buttress to the window super sharp!

Very good zones of sharpness in that last window image. See the left side wall OOF, then the buttress to the window super sharp! That bird is very sharp. What sort of subject distance?

Nice pics Graham. Lens performs well. I know the old version was knocked by many but I found mine OK. With that lens and the 810 who need a D400.

No doubt the 400mm is not quite long enough for birds but the D810 means you can crop images a lot and still retain some quality. Also all Nikon DSLRs in recent times produce good high ISO results that also helps.
