Ian thanks for the info. I got into my Sony after a slight P/W problem and the update faltered then I removed the x1.4 extender and all good. Lens now on Version 03.

Having bought myself a super duper 2024 spec MacBook, I now discover the Sony firmware isn’t new enough to support the latest OS, so it won’t allow firmware updates without disabling half of its security defaults and faffing about rebooting and installing additional software.

You couldn’t make it up!

Even my old laptop cannot now be used as it’s still got windows 8 and that’s been dropped off Sony’s software compatibility list.  Sigh!

My only recourse is to borrow a mates laptop with windows 10. Incidentally, having trawled the Sony site I notice it’s not just the 200-600 lens that’s got firmware updates. I’ve got 2 other lenses that ‘need’ doing at the same time.

I say ‘need’ but I do wonder whether these updates add anything to the functionality of MY set up. A lot of the changes relate solely to new camera compatibility.

Can’t wait till Wednesday.:banghead:

Does Apple support multiple operating system versions?  My PC has Windoze 10 and Linux loaded, I just choose which OS to use on boot up. If so you could load an earlier MacOS as an alternative

Edited to add - Using Apple's Boot Camp utility, you can set up a Mac so that it boots to Mac OS X, Windows or Linux.

Yes I think you are right but to be honest I get hacked off when it doesnt go straight forward. It’s ludicrous that something you’ve paid a lot of money for to get the best available and you have to compromise it on something simple like this. I will no doubt in time do what you suggest but at the moment it’s still in the honeymoon period and I don’t want to be fighting the computer, I want to get on using it for imaging and videoing.

CORRECTION:  The M3 chip doesn’t support Boot Camp. Apple decided not to pursue it with the M series chips.

So I’ve had my chips!

CORRECTION 2:
Apparently Parallels is the software that has replaced Boot Camp on newer machines. My computer guru, who currently works in Belgium sorting out the EU wide 5G network, is back home soon and will ‘sort me out’.

Oh ‘eck!  I sometimes understand Dr Who’s dialogue more than his.

If you hold down the Ctrl key and click Open from the menus then the software will warn you that security may be compromised by running the software.
Usually this is just Apple being ultra-cautious and running the software will have no problem.

Answer to all your woes is stay away from Apple products - they want to control you and rip you off with built in redundancy! Like Tesla who sell you a car and then tell you what you can do with it.....
