Eh, this thread is also as hijacked as my plans with the gift cards - I've been thinking of getting a nice Kitchen Aid mixer, too (I have plenty of attachments - yeah, I got the attachments in the divorce but not the mixer?).

If I could drag us all back to the first post for a moment.... have you actually tried your current lenses for shooting the moon at night? The reason I say that is my moon shot was shot at f5.6....because that was the max aperture of the lens I used. So you may be surprised what your current lenses can do ....with high ISO and shutter speed. Bear in mind the moon is actually lit by sunlight, so has similar exposures to a sunny day on earth!

Yes I have and the pictures aren't bad - but I'm also looking for pictures of stars etc. (and eventually through a telescope). One thing I did notice - whenever I use my telephoto adapter the pictures are always out of focus - auto or manual focus.

If by 'adapter' you mean a teleconverter and you are using it on your zoom lens ...you are likely to amplify minor imperfections. I found even my 80-200f2.8 was soft when adding a TC. Teleconverter really only should be used with prime lenses imho. If you look back at the eclipse combination photo I posted, you will see the eclipsed moon is unsharp compared to the full moon. Same lens mounted on tripod same aperture...the only difference was the slower shutter speed I neede to use ...due to the lower light during eclipse. Subject movement and probably a bit of mirror slap, as I forgot to use mirror up setting. ![]()
