The green down arrow only appears after a manual screen refresh, probably expected behaviour.

Yes, the green arrow, the pm new messages and various other things ONLY refresh on a page load.

I have developed interactive things like the "like" button and the splash screen buttons that use two way chat with the server to refresh themselves.

I think most people expect to refresh to get updated pages, in fact I find it better because continuous updating webpages can be hard to follow if it isn't clear where you are 'up to'.

I like to make mental note of last read post, then refresh if there are no green arrows, as on some forums.

There is an annoying delay on the green arrow appearing if you go from splash page - not sure why the original arrow code isn't populating the arrow and we are waiting for the refresh ... working on it ...
