I prefer the cities of Sevilla and Cordoba.

i spent around 20 years searching the hills up here in north wales ,metal detector in hand looking for evidence of the lost roman town/city of VARUS its mentioned in the antonine itinery as being roughly in the vicinity of where denbigh is now they even gave the roman miles as (approx) 17 miles from caerhun (conway valley) and 32 from deva (chester) the only trouble being that due to the then topography no one knows which route they took . so you might be looking on a built over area or open fields ,one strong contender for the title is caerwys near the A55 that is laid out still in typically roman street patterns ,but not enough finds have come from the area ,a few roman brooches and odd coins but not enough .the local populations up here were also pretty good at re-using worked stone .one day perhaps technology will move on enough for it to be found . heres one of my better finds from those endless hours of walking and digging henry 8th gold angel about a d7100's worth LOL ![]() gold angel henry viii by blackfox wildlife & nature imaging, on Flickr
