Im a new photographer but have started to do family pictures as well as I have a wedding coming up that I will be photographing!! So Im looking to upgrade my Nikon D40 body as well as what are some lenses that I should invest in??? Ive been eyeing the Nikon D610 for the full frame...but perhaps a more affordable option is the Nikon D7100 and then purchase some great lenses??????????? Any thoughts????o.Ojavascript:emoticon('o.O', 'images/emoticons/confused.gif')

Welcome to the forum. I hope that wedding is not too soon as whatever camera you get, you need to know it very well.

Suggest you search these 2 cameras on the forum and read what our members have contributed and some of the issues/solutions which have resulted.

Aro,
Welcome
Considering your experience a word of warning:
Do not try to be the official/only wedding photographer.
Being a wedding photographer is a skill and a profession.

What body would be best for your upgrade depends on the lenses you have, if they are DX-AF-S, most (DX) bodies will do.
Regards, Gilbert

The D610 would mean new lenses...as I assume you currently only have DX lenses for the D40 ....and they don't work that well on FX bodies.

So the investment would be higher all round. Do you want to spend that much??? Are you going to do more weddings or 'pro' photography?

Personally I would go with the D7100 and an 18-105 DX VR lens.
It would cover all the angles you need for portraits and groups.

Although FX cameras tend to produce slightly better images than DX cameras that's more to do with the FX photographers having expensive 'pro quality' lenses attached. Put a consumer lens on an FX body and it will not outshine a DX camera with a DX lens.

Welcome to the group.

Aro,
My apologies for being rude.
Do not even try what I think you are thinking about.

Aro, Welcome to the forum.
I agree with Eric. The D7100 is a logical step up but make sure that you are totally familiar with the camera before the event.

Give some thought to starting with one of the other systems like Fuji or Sony etc.

You probably don't have a lot of glass that will be very useful on any of the new Nikon cameras and the future seems to be heading to mirror-less.

Also they have lots of great features and pricing is reasonable. Lots of our members are using them and have posted their findings.
