Yes I saw that but I cant say it really interests me much. Better processor chipset but little else. Is that all that is possible ?

There is no doubt that I am very happy with the D800 and slight changes like that would not make me change. Also having parted with the D3X I do not miss or need it so if a D4X came out I think I would keep my cash for another good holiday!

I agree on the D800 that I have now It's great and see little need for any upgrading at all. The only "feature" I would be interested in (and not enough to buy one just for this) would be a reticulating LCD for ground level shots. OTOH, these things may not really be rugged enough to pass the Nikon high level durability standards...and I'm with them if that is the case. However...it's nice for new buyers

My D3s is four years old now, and I feel no need to update. Like Eric I would like the same performance in a much smaller, lighter (and cheaper) body, one day that might make me upgrade but only maybe. I like to think we have reached a point where there is no need to upgrade each generation. If I could stay current enough and only have to buy a new camera every 10 years or so I would be very happy.

I have tested the D800 and found it to be taxing to use in general day to day work as it does require better technique and the storage of the files brings additional storage burden on my hard disk. The D600 has proved to be a much better solution for me as it is a smaller package than the D3S and has 24MP which is as much or more pixels than I need for most work. The D3 and D3S are solid workhorses and the image quality is stuning. My Fuji cameras that I use now more and more weigh half to a third of the Nikon kit so they are more tempting to carry around and the IQ is just as good as the D3. I know that when I had my Nikon F2 I was very reluctant to go to the F3 but in truth that is the last film camera that I really enjoyed. The F4, F5 were a disappointment for me so I got a F801 which was OK but it didnt have the 'feel' of the F3. The D1 when it arrived was a huge change but had flaws so the D1X was a better solution. I repurchased an F3 last year for peanuts so I could take some film shots if necessary and I still love its feel in my hands. I think I have reached contentment point with my camera purchasing. Time to just enjoy taking pictures. :thumbsup:

I agree perhaps that is why Nikon are slow to produce a D400. If they did I too would say do I need it what I have works very well and I no longer have any DX lenses! I also liked my F3 Nikon from film days and my daughter Clare (who is joining this group still) keeps her F3 but is now using a D300.

I think I would be sorely tempted to have a D400 as I have now moved my D300 to use in my underwater housing. I wish I could get a digital 'film insert' for my F3.
