Park Cameras in UK are now taking pre orders for body only £5199. The 16.2 MP has a revamped and improved sensor. The high ISOs image quality are claimed by Nikon to be greatly improved. It's interesting that Nikon have failed to replace the D3X with a D4X with D800 type spec in the larger body?

I confess I no longer understand the Nikon strategy of tweaking current models at the expense of filling obvious gaps in their range. It's clear there is a market for a pro DX body with all the performance of their top FX model. They seem to think the D7100 is adequate...but it's not. I am not sure the D800 sensor needs to be in a D4 body? It's primarily a tripod based studio/landscape body to capitalise on its detail...and is less likely to need the speed of use or ISO range that traditionally comes with the bigger housing models.

Graham, re: replace the D3X As far as I know, tha market for the D3x is small. Many people who want the resolution may be satisfied with the D800's less ruggedness etc. compared to a single-digit camera. An other argument may be the slow speed of the D3x, e.i. Nikon developers must have been waiting for faster electronics. My guess: with the latest electronics, and XQD card, a D4X with a sensor like the D800 may be in the cards. Regards, Gilbert

I agree with that also commercial photographers and advertising photographers needing high quality large files are going to look at digital Hasselblad or larger. I find the D800 is fine for me and I would find it very hard to justify £5000 even if a D4X did come out!

I was talking to one of the camera sales guys here in Hong Kong and he was complaining about the lack of a new high end 24MP replacement for the D300 e.g. The fabled D400. I feel that Nikon have lost the plot with respect to APS-C as they are only releasing consumer models with this size sensor and only FX sensors for professional range of cameras.

Having read all of the above , I wonder if that Df is a " warning " of things to come , can n`t wait for Dave Groen to post an ( in depth ) review , incl. how it performs with older Nikkors.

I saw several Df cameras being toted and in the shops in Hong Kong. I think when I compare my smaller XT1 camera with its APS-C sensor with many advanced features I realise where I would rather be with my daily camera but appreciated the FX format for some shooting. I remain convinced that the D400 is a highly desirable addition to the Nikon range of cameras and that more that 24MP provides too much detail except for studio pack shots or photography of landscape with a view to producing extremely high detail. I might have missed the odd niche or specialist type of photography.
