A 300 with an X2 converter on a V1 will give the equivalent of at least a 1200mm lens which by anybodies standard would be a challenge to hold steady unless well supported. I just checked, the multiplier is 2.7 so 300 x 2 = 600 x 2.7 =1620mm Mmm that is very Llllllllloooooonnnnnngggg

the only trouble is rob ,having had one along with others on here ,is with the sensor being so small you do not gain ANY advantage over a larger sensor on a bigger camera .it looks good on paper but its a illusion ,went through all this with eric we did the tests ,and i then sold the camera . its the same as the illusionary crop mode on the d7100 it appears to give you longer focal length and indeed does on the exif data ,but if left at full frame and cropped down manually the final pixel count is exactly the same . bloody good marketing on nikons part but just a ploy in reality

Well of course it's the same Jeff, there are no free lunches. I wasn't suggesting it was a good idea, in fact quite the reverse, it's a stupid idea to increase the focal length and reduce the sensor size. I am from the plate camera lobby!!!

The D600 in FX is 24,160,256 pixels where as it is only 10,328,064 in DX mode. In Dx it has a bit less resolution than a D5000. There might be a small gain in sharpness using the smaller tubed higher pixel density camera, as opposed to cropping an FX immage, but I don't suspect that it would amount to much all things considered.
