Eric, the expense of a Macbook Pro compared to a Windows laptop will be directly reflected in the time that the machine stays working and is usable.
I have Macbook Pro laptops that are ten years old and they work well with my older versions of Photoshop.  The only Windows machine I have is a Surface Pro Tablet running Windows 10.  It is distinctly creaky!!
If you want high performance then buying a Macbook Pro with the new M2 processor will provide you everything.  My Newest Macbook Pro 14" is only M1 processor but it flies along very happily even with the latest version of Photoshop with all its AI wonders.

Thanks for the reassurance Jonathan.

I am moving closer to that decision. Just a bit phased by the realisation I may have to redo all the last 5 years raw files in PS. 8-)

Lol - the surface pro was creaky when brand new - my wife had one for council work - my tiny little Asus laptop with Linux and a 1.1mhz cpu could knock spots off the Pro!

You may well laugh but Jan and I have been sat indoors a lot of this week deleting missed lemons and redundant videos that are cluttering our respective iPads (hers more than mine!). She had 1600 videos and wondered why she was approaching her 500gb limit. After 2 days she discovered the duplicates feature in Photos…..that instantaneously reduced the log jam by 300videos!

It’s one of the reasons I am planning to shift back to a laptop. It’s too easy to lose sight of files in iPad Photos with all the multiple album options… which are not as visual as a conventional computer file system. Annoyingly having created multiple Albums to compartmentalise your photo categories, you also cannot block transfer an Album to a back up disk,  as the Album names are not recognised as Folders.

I plan to do a photobook of our garden bird visitors over the years as my next project, which will inevitably mean some back searching through the archives to confirm the best choices, so a bit of PS editing won’t go a miss. And as this will be itself a cherry picking exercise it should serve up the best, and only the best, for inclusion requiring fine tuning.

Its always good to have a clean out now and again keeping the best as if your like me you keep loads that you should have deleted in the first place.

There are several utilities that are available for rapid transfer from iphone/ipad to computer that allow you to do the transfer very easily when the ipad is attached to the computer.
Maybe FE File Explorer Pro will work for you.

I have got a File manager app that I can use to communicate between iPad and backup drive as well as the laptop.

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to be that rapid. Although in fairness I am trying to back up Jan’s journal files which even when split into years run to 5-15gb files. She loves to imbed video files (it’s like reading a Harry Potter newspaper lol) which add up to big files.

I transfered a13gb file from the back up drive (wired) to the PC….it took 3 minutes.  Using my File browser app it’s saying 2hours for same file!

Not sure if its the lightning cable or the apps transfer rate slowing things up because it’s going through the same usb port on the pc as I used for the 3min transfer from the external HD. o.O

In line with what Jonathan said I gave a 2007 MacBook to my youngest son and he is still using it as everything he uses still works on it. 16 years of use ain’t bad.

Have you tried copying files from iPhone/iPad to an ixpand drive first, then move them to the PC?  Maybe it can speed things a bit up.
