Just a heads-up...

I have loaded both my D3s and D3X with SANDISK Extreme Pro 128 GB cards and they Both function Flawlessly....and Fast too...some specs : SanDisk UDMA 7 Extreme Pro CF-card 65 video - 160/150MB -read/write - 128GB.

.. I really need these.even `tho in my style of photography 1/30 sec.  equals 30 min.

Seriously, them were on sale, and they are faster than some 64GB cards I have....and, I hate to run out of film.

I loved my D3s. It was so forgiving of (my) exposure errors ….on those occasions I thought I knew better than the camera. Lol

What sort of photography do you do with 30min exposure? Would love to see an image or two.

I have to say I tend to use 64gb SD cards. I generally can get a whole days photography on a single card ….although I have 2 or 3 backup cards just in case I go mad with the shutter.  Motor sport and horse eventing tend to use more space although I have taken quite a few when trying to capture birds in flight. Fortunately most of those are rubbish so the images can be deleted in the camera…releasing more of 64gb space.

Ah Yes..My photographic background was very much based on the Technical camera/Optical bench, which means hauling up hill top, setting up shop,so I was boasting when mentioning 30 min., in reality that would be a record indeed,...both SINAR P2 are long gone but still got a Horseman VH-R, and that would explain my afair with the PC (E) Nikkors....of which I`ve got them all ...Yes,that includes the PC-E 19 :bowing:

I have 2 64s in the D610 but can always transfer through cable or WU-1b to mini iPad and upload to server back home if I really need to - that means 2 terrabytes available!

Usually only a problem if I take a lot of video.

Chris - how do you back up images from your iPad?

I also use an iPad for photo processing (although considering changing to MacBook in new year) and I back up to a WD Passport 4Tb drive using the drives onboard WIFi. It works but can be quite slow with the large Sony files, especially if there are video files and to my mind is a bit hands on in the procedure. (I like simple actions and auto back ups lol)

I know the iPad is backing up to the cloud but using Affinity Photo app,  it saves the layered files (full or part  processed) within the app …or somewhere I haven’t yet found!

I therefore cant save those layered files to the same hard disk without exporting it as a tiff to a location on my iPad (where Apple allow me to go) and then import, belt and braces.  I confess I miss the open architecture of a Mac or PC full fat computer.

I have a iPad Pro but don't use it for processing. For that I use either my iMac or MacBook Pro. If I go away I tale the MacBook Pro to back up images too.

Eric - I have the webserver that this forum runs on - I can FTP (file transfer protocol upload) up to the disc from anywhere using the net and FTPManager on IOS. This shows both local and remote discs - click and drag to transfer....

I just copy the whole file off the SD card to the hard disk - speed depends on internet connection but I can always leave it running while I do other things.

I have been using my 12” iPad Pro for processing on Affinity Photo for some time. It’s perfectly workable on that size screen.

The problem is….although Affinity for ipad has a dedicated raw converter for Sony A7 cameras there isn’t one for the A1. Asking on the Sony forum it seems the raw converters are supplied by a third party company and the number of A1 users working on iPads compared to A7 on desktop/laptop users has not been sufficient to generate a dedicated converter for A1 raw on iPad.

AP will open the files in a normal generic manner but I feel the control of the conversion is broad brush that doesn’t maximise the quality. Graham has processed some of my A1 files in PS and there is noticeable better control of noise with PS.

Sadly the PS app for iPad is severely wanting in key controls…specifically in sharpening & noise control!!

AP for desktop/laptop does have an A1 converter. But frankly if I have to stop ipad processing I will get PS on a laptop.

This change is also motivated by the fact my iPad Pro is 2nd generation and starting to show its age in battery life and one or two annoying iOS based conflicts that seem to suggest the updates are not bothering about backward compatibility even on pro models.

I’ve delayed updating my pc laptop as I feel a MacBook would give better connectivity with other Apple items Jan & I have….but they are more expensive. Having just spent a fortune this year on refurbishments at the old homestead I am waiting for my wallet to stop hyperventilating. Lol

Is that FTPmanager an app on AppStore?

Not sure if it’s how I set it up or the fact my storage drives have their own WIFi network that interfere but I can never see my backup drives on my home network. I confess networks are something I haven’t ever manage to best. I always seem to fail to get full functionality to all my devices.

Yes - or if I am on a PC I use filezilla - I think you can get that for Mac
