Nikon have been very slow with the release of a better camera than the Nikon Z7ii or Z7. The Z9 has arrived for those that want the old style heavy top of the range camera. However the Z8 which is a lighter format camera with a similar specification to the Z9 has been rumoured for a while. Finally we are getting rumours that seem that the release of information and sale of the camera is imminent. Here are the latest rumours. Z8 camera looks almost identical to the Z7ii but will have a battery grip more like the old style. Sensor: 45.7MP (stacked) ISO range: 64-25,600 20 fps (120fps in JPEG mode) 5-axis in-body stabilizations: 6 stops Shutter speed: 1/32000 – 900s Electronic shutter only Autofocus: 493 AF points HEIF 10-bit support Video: 8.3k @60p 3.2″ tilting LCD screens EVF: same as the Z9 (3690k-dot OLED) Memory cards: CFExpress + SD Dust/drip resistant: same as the Nikon D850 Dimensions: 144×118×83mm | 5.6×4.6×3.2in Weight: under 1kg Price: €4,599 (equivalent to around $5,000) More information coming Many of the other specifications not listed above will be identical to the Nikon Z9 I am hoping that Nikon put GPS in the camera as it is such a cheap commodity electronics wise that it makes little sense to skimp.

Is there any thinking that stacked sensors are less noisy than the conventional sensors of equivalent MP? Have to say I am falling out of love with 45mp sensors….they flatter to deceive in poor light. It amuses me that manufacturers are at last recognising that cropping camera height to save weight compromises the in hand comfort to some degree. My Sony is 100% better with its Meike MK-A9II Hand Grip….despite adding just 20mm under the fingers.

I agree, even though the 610 is a chunky camera, it feels better with the battery pack fitted and 100% better when used portrait.

I find my Fuji XT5 and XH2, XH2S very much fit my hands as does my Nikon Z7. I just prefer the control layout on the XT5 as everything is there. If the Z8 is the same size as the Z7 then I may purchase but I think that unless it provides the same AF performance as the Z9 that it will be a little too late as I am now fairly comitted to what I have at present in my Nikon and Fuji kit.

I discovered in about 1982 that the OM1 needed a winder or motordrive to be really comfortable. Since then I have only had cameras with a motordrive attached or a built-in grip. The only exception being the Fuji FinePix S2Pro (F80) to which I fitted an F80 battery pack. Nikon's larger cameras clearly demonstrate that a built-in grip increases the height by less than does an accessory grip. Olympus demonstrated that making a camera that is a comfortable size, for me anyway, somewhat negates the benefits of the small sensor, the OM D E-M1X being only slightly smaller than a D5. As far as I am concerned, the new camera is of no use to me, irrespective of its technical specification if it doesn't have a grip, preferably one that will take an EN-EL18D.

I was the same with grips until I switched to Sony and am now working with the cameras as they are. The Meike MK-A9II I might have considered but seem to be like gold dust to find. As for the Z8, that won't tempt me back. If I was spending that much I would buy a Sony A1.

I feel very much the same. If it had been 61MP then it might be a replacement for my Fuji GFX100S and GFX50R as this would be a easy trade-in and a zero cost option.
