I agree about the D500...I have the extra grip. I also agree with the pricing comparison comment. That said, the D850 was at £3300 a year ago so a D780 will be a lot cheaper, in comparison and actuality, by end of the year as the D850 has already levelled out. ;-)

With the exception of Jonathan, none of us buy new releases anyway. Oh correction ....I did buy one of the first 500mmPF lens in the country. (Graham probably got the first, direct from Nikon!! )

I've now surprised myself looking at the heights of the D500/D780/D850 and the D750.

The D750 is even shorter (2mm) than both the D500 and D780! It could have only been the deepness of finger recess (which was much deeper than regular cameras) that made the difference because I was able to hand hold the D750 all day (never even had it on a neck strap) with no 4th finger issues. When the D850 came out I was so pleased because it too has a deeper than normal finger recess (perhaps not as deep as the D750) and it felt so good in the hand. That said, it is 10mm taller than the rest and that's probably all that's needed to give the grip for the 4thfinger.

Ergonomics are fascinating aren't they? Though it disquietens me somewhat the way manufacturers change dimensions and shapes when hands haven't changed? Unless photographers as a generality are getting smaller hands?

I ended up having to update my 2012 Mac Mini with a 2018 version as it just couldn't keep up with the Z6 files (especially video ones) and ended up adding a Drobo with 16TB of storage and another couple of TB of SSD storage just to give myself a chance. Not to mention an external Vega 64 graphics card...
It's crazy how much processing power some of these files need.
Don't quite understand the power issue that Robert and yourself experience? I am working with D850 raw files on an IPad Pro. I don't upload all my files direct to the iPad but load them (very quickly) from a QXD card onto a WiFi external drive. From there I can browse the uploaded files, deleting as I go, and only bring the files I want to work on, onto the iPad. Certainly if I tried to upload all the files to the iPad it will falter, and I have yet to attempt some of the stacked files that Robert can generate or do any length videoing with the D850. So maybe I am running just ahead of a 'power shortfall tsunami'.

I rarely use camera straps which I find get in the way, preferring a holster bag from which I can more easily draw the camera (I even have a holster that accommodates the d500+1.4tc+500mm...with lens hood ready in place!!!). This means that when not in the holster, when not photographing, I often still carry it in the hand, not round the neck or shoulder. That's when pinky power is necessary. :thumbs:

I wouldn't underestimate the sheer power that your iPad Pro has. If it's the original iPad Pro you're still talking about a 6 core processor running at around 2.2Ghz (yes there are 3 performance and 3 economy cores but that's still a fair bit of grunt) and way more than my old Mac Mini!

Granted though most of my complaints were when editing 4K video... at that point my old Mac really showed it couldn't handle it.
