Ergonomically, the D750 was the best handheld camera I owned...nice deep finger recess. It was a breath of fresh air after the weight of the D3. If they have kept the same body in the D780 and I didn't have the bodies I already have, I might have been tempted. FX, 24mp, Z6 sensor, D5 processor, no silly adapter.

Neither do I (it's my pet hate!) and that didn't happen with the D750....it was quite tall and a deep recess. Felt really stable in my hand....just a little outbalanced with a heavy telephotos. This is why I wonder if they retained the D750 body on the D780?

Interesting but using Camera Size Comparison the D780 and the D300 are almost exactly the same size. My wife has a D300 and that is too small for comfort as far as I am concerned but is fine with the MB-D10 attached. I see no reason why the D780 would be any different. Also worth considering is that Grays have the D780 at £2199 and the D850 at £2399, if I had £2000 to spend on a camera I would find the extra £200 and get the D850. The D750 is now a real bargain at under £1000 new and, with no interest in video, would suite me better I think, especially as there is the MB-D16 available.

I agree with Geoff that for an extra £200 the D850 looks to be the better purchase.

D780 is a few mm BIGGER than a D750. The D750 is the same as the D610 bar half a mm in width which has plenty of space for my fingers even without the grip. A lot of the extra height of the D850 is above the grip which is much the same on all these cameras.

I agree with that I must say when I saw the £2199 price I also thought that £1400 would be nearer the mark, I do not think Nikon will sell many of these. A D850, if new is a great price at £2399. I paid £3500 for mine but no regrets it is one of the best cameras I have ever had!

To me that seems an infinitely more important consideration than what to do with my pinky.

I think the D780 pricing feels so off due to the discounts and drop in price like on the Z6 and D750 currently. I reckon we'll see the D850 disappear pretty soon replaced by a D880 alongside a Z8/9 That way Nikon can use that Sony 60mpx sensor and bump prices again - I doubt the D780 will stay at that price for long if Nikon's recent discounting is anything to go by?

This is also a good point, more MPX means everything else in the chain needs upgrading too. I ended up having to update my 2012 Mac Mini with a 2018 version as it just couldn't keep up with the Z6 files (especially video ones) and ended up adding a Drobo with 16TB of storage and another couple of TB of SSD storage just to give myself a chance. Not to mention an external Vega 64 graphics card... It's crazy how much processing power some of these files need.
