You must try it Iain, it's amazing once it's locked on. I have cancelled Christmas this year, far too much to do, I don't know what happened to 2016, is there any way of slowing time? This year has gone so fast it's just been a blur!

I'll give it a go Jonathan, I might get out for an hour or two this week if there is anything to take pics of.

On the d3xxx & D5xxx the cameras will only work in "M" mode with non chipped lenses , even Nikon ones. On the D610 the same lenses will run in "M or A" making use of the auto exposure system. What is the status with manual lenses on the D500?

As with the D200 and D300, the D500 will take almost any Nikkor lens except the intrusive (which would wreck the mirror) and the pre AI (which would wreck the aperture mechanism). There is provision for manual selection of non CPU lenses via a Nnon CPU lens list or to input the focal length and maximum aperture on an ad-hoc basis.

This is good news for all those using non-cpu lenses.

The D500 is the Nikon I am least likely to part with, not because it is the newest camera but because it is so refined. It handles really well. The rumour mill has it that in 2017 we see the D700 or D750 replacement which will be a baby D5 or a FX version of the D500. I think this will be my last Nikon. I just need to thin down by Nikon kit.

Glad you're enjoying the D500. No plans for any Nikon in 2017. Possibly the replacement for the Sony A7r11 if it has the right stuff for me. There are some good adapters available to handle all my Nikon mounts. Well at least 39 of them. ![]()

The other thing with DX the focus sensors cover most of the screen, with FX the sensors remain the same size but the extra area is added to the surroundings, if that makes sense? In other words with FX the sensors are grouped effectively more tightly to the central area in relation to the frame area.
