I really cant take anything that DxO do seriously. I know there have been technology advances but when you have the cameras yourself and can make assessments of their abilities then it really does make me wonder what the *$£@ DxO do in their tests other than pluck numbers out of the air! http://nikonrumors.com/2015/03/27/nikon-d5500-camera-tested-at-dxomark.aspx/ This is another reason why I would be completely unwilling to part with any money that would go to DxO. Please can someone prove to me that the testing that they do is worthwhile and meaningful or are these results a product of a nice lunch in a French restaurant on the banks of the Seine.

If you took the same shot, outdoors, nice day etc. with all the Nikons on that list, and a comparable list of Canons, Soneys etc. and printed them at Super B 13x19, how many photographers could pick out the D810 or that $7000 Canon? The truth is that we have a gackle of fine camera gear and should be out shooting more and pixil peeping less.

This one of the reasons why I asked if the DxO tests were valid/useful. I'd certainly agree with that Mike. The cameras are very close in sensor performance terms but the handling of the different cameras is the most important thing so the pro cameras win when you need this functionality otherwise the pro/am cameras can produce just as good results.

JM, re: valid It may be, I have no proof of the contrary. re: differences Like so many (so called) testers they tend to focus on just the sensor (and other electronics) performance. Many real photographers (grin) know there is a lot more we consider when choosing a camera. Regards, Gilbert

DxO ratings usually fall in line with most of the other testers, but they all test and avoid the same things. If the same emphasis were given to firmware, in the scoring, as is given to sensor definition, the ratings would be much different.
