Just a question for those that have or have had the Fuji x100. What is your thoughts about it? I'm thinking of one as a small camera for days out and general photography. Any recommendations on which version to go for, it would be secondhand.

Only downer is the battery life. You need to carry a couple of spare extra batteries. Otherwise the IQ is awesome and the camera works well. I still have mine and I love it. I use it when I go walking.

Apart from battery life, I would 'criticise' the X100 for its slow response time, a few switch irritations and of course the lack of lens interchangeability...WHEN COMPARED TO LATER MODELS. That said, the IQ matches the D3. I felt the lack of lens interchangeability began to pall after a while. I found myself carrying a D7000 as well! We've all done the 'walk around with just a 50mm lens' exercise. It does focus attention on picture composition and hone you skills. But you cannot beat a range of focal lengths at your disposal....be that primes or zoom. I wanted a camera I could use walking round towns taking street shots. Sorry, the response time of the X100 isn't good enough for that. If you switch it off, to save battery, it will take seconds to wake up, frame, focus and fire. It's no use for moving situations....the decisive moment is lost. Personally I would go for a used XPro or XT.

I had a look in Jessops last night and the x30 looked a nice camera and seems to have a good write up.

The sensor on the X30 is much smaller but the camera has all the features of the X100 plus it has a zoom lens. I did consider buying one myself but I got a Nikon V1 with 10-30 and 30-110 lenses and a spare battery for less than £300. The X30 was £475. The V1 has a sensor (1" CX sized) which is 1/2 the area of APS-C. The X30 sensor is half that again I think, so 1/4 the area of APS-C.

Iain- There are now 3 models of x100 The original, the x100s and very recently the x100t Each has a lot of improvements and in each case some of the improvements are handed down to the older models via firmware updates. I think the biggest jump was from the x100 to the x100s and that should be pretty heavlily discounted now that the x100t is available. That said, the x100 had a different sensor and many like the way it handles color better than the new sensor (which handles faster focus). They are all the ultimate pocket camera as far as I'm concerned...really excellent IQ in all sorts of conditions. Tom

I've just entered the Fuji clan with a x-pro 1, it should be here tomorrow in time to play with over Christmas.

Oh very nice. Make sure that you get the latest firmware that was released earlier this week. If you need help then PM or email me or post here. Super high quality set of cameras with outstanding lenses. When the 140-400mm comes in 2015 then it will have an excellent lens range. Dont expect it to have speed of AF the same as Canon or Nikon but everything else is as good.
