There is always a glass cover that is either an IR filter or some other filtration over the top of the Bayer layer then the sensor photosites.

Looks good. If this had been around a few years ago I might still have been Nikon.

Early reviews look very interesting. No major advances but much improved auto focus even in poor light sounds good. I can see nothing but advantage to removal of low pass filter there is no doubt from reviews and reports from D800E users test pix were sharper than D800. Good D800s still get very good 2nd hand prices so I may well upgrade?

After 3 returns for shutter problems Nikon replaced my D600 with a new boxed D610. I took it to several shops, unopened, to get a price on going to a D810. The over $2200CDN for the upgrade didn't seem to be good value for me, no articulating LCD etc., so I'm keeping the D610.

There is little wrong in my eyes with the D600/610. It has perfect size and balance and it has just the right number of MP. I do find the 36MP of the D800 to be too many for everyday use. It is just too detailed. The only thing I dont like is the lack of a 10 pin socket for accessories but the small USB-like connector offered does do the same it is just all my special accessories have the 10 pin connector.

jk, isn't there an adaptor to go from the USB to the 10 pin?

It needs to be 10pin socket (female) to Nikon D610/D600/D5300/D5200/D3300/D3200/D3100/D5200/D90 connector (male).

Well done Graham. Look forward to seeing a NEF example from you when you have had it a while. Currently I am stalking a 24-120 f4 AFS VR to give me some extra flexibility on some of my work. ![]()

Hi JK I have a 120-24 f4 AF-S in maker's box a year old and hardly used. I would be happy to get £500 for it if you are interested? Let me know ASAP and I will hold it back for you. Otherwise will trade it in with some other kit when my D810 arrives in about a weeks time. We have just got back from Wales filming the Talyllyn Railway for our next Railway DVD/BluRay to be published in a few months time. Picture is Edward Thomas one of the stars of our film. We had super weather and I filmed some very dramatic footage on the footplate of the driver and fireman working. Not much room for 3 of us on the footplate and I stood in front of the fire-box with an out-side temp of 30C! A very interesting hour as we puffed up the dramatic little railway.
