Hello folks,I've been using a D40 for the last 8yrs or so and before that a F501 so I know a bit about the job..
I've decided to put a bit more effort into photography and I'm looking at buying a d7100,I alredy have some AF lenses from the 501[50mm 1.8 70-210 f4 28-105 and the kit lense from the D40 18-55] oh and a Sigma 24mm 2.8.
Looking forward to asking some really daft questions so here goes......

Hi Snapper! Welcome to the forum, a clue as to your whereabouts would be good but you are most welcome wherever you live.

What's your favourite subjects or do you just snap whatever takes your fancy?

Welcome Snapper.
We hope that you like it here.

D7100 is a good step up from the D40. You will really notice the difference.

Just ask away as someone will answer your question.

Perhaps not too far from me in South Cumbria?

Tons of opportunities for landscape and wildlife!

Greetings Snapper. The D7100 will seem amazing after the D40. I borrowed a D40 when I was on holiday a couple of years ago and hated it lol. I was too used to my d200 so it was a big step down quality wise. You will love your new camera when you get it.

Greetings !

As Judith says, there is world of difference between the D40 and D7100.

I know this for a fact because I recently sold my D7000 to a bird watching friend who had been using a D40 for some years!

He is over the moon with the quality increase and value for money (should have charged him more ;-)) . He is finding his bird photos are light years better, as he can crop in with a lot less of a quality loss.
