Update - not only did I manage to secure a mint front cap but also the original lens hood for the lens, so that is a complete 500mm lens in excellent condition for less than £100 :-)

It's an FE - another recent acquisition together with a 50mm f2 Nikkor H - for less than £50. The FE had a stuck shutter release, now fixed :thumbs:

Would this lens work with a TC 200 teleconverter or would it suffer from vignetting? I know the f number will drop to 11...

Should do but Nikon put lugs on some TCs that stopped certain lens combos.  There are hacks that have been used, filing away of the lugs.
