I've seen a number of photographic sideshows recently that all seem to use the same technique of both cropped and uncropped images.

For eg...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-26431323

So my question is ...why take the shots so wide that they ALL look better cropped? Why doesn't the photographer zoom or walk in? Why doesn't he JUST show the cropped images?

I've always maintained 'inside every good photo there is a great image trying to getout'. But ones you've unleashed it...why go back?

Perhaps I am just a dinosaur?

o.O:lol:

Just an excuse to have two images instead of one!

I kind of like it...if you like "video" slideshows.

I'm in the dinosaur camp...I still make PRINTS all the time...

Well I suppose you are right in sideshows...it sort of eases the transitions.

I just feel its like a photo critique....this is what you took but this is what you should have seen.

I agree with you Eric, in each case the cropped image was stronger IMO.

A sensor size or film frame size does not necessarily relate to a print size. By allowing extra room around the subject, a range of different paper sizes, and proportions, can be used.
