Well only a week to CES in Las Vegas and we will find out what is due for delivery in this new year.

I expect a D4X and possibly a D400 finally with a few new revamped lenses from Nikon.
From Fuji there are various rumours but nothing solid.

What do you think the D4x would be? A D800 sensor in a D4 body? I think they would have to do more than just that to sell it.

Yes something like that but with a larger image buffer so that it can still keep the burst rate of the D4.

Digital Technology options getting like Film Technology only very small changes.
The next big step will come with the next generation of sensors where we can get low noise and higher pixel densities. Much the same step up that the D3 sensor made back in 2007.

I think the reason for the D3 'step up' was losing sales to lower noise Canons. We know these manufacturers are always a few years ahead of the product on the market...they meter out yesterdays developments today. It takes a big incentive (like losing market position) to cause them to release big step changes ....and right now I don't see that as a problem. Although Nikon sales performance hasnt been stellar in 2013.
