http://connect.dpreview.com/post/9262192527/what-you-need-to-kn0w-instagram I've always hated Facebook, so this won't really affect me, but it makes you wonder about the other photo posting/sharing/database sites. What about Flickr? What about others? The only one I have trusted to date is Photo.net, but I rarely post there either except to allow someone I want to have an image download it. What do you think about these other sites???

I have my photo on facebook, but need not worry about it being sold. No one would pay money for it. But it just goes to show any opportunity to make money and they're right there these days.

I suspect the time has come to ask yourselves "why am I posting my images on the Internet at all?" I am even nervous about sending clients work via large file transfer or Dropbox because they could well be the next to say "finders keepers".

I definitely understand that reaction, but you just can't miss the opportunity that the technology gives us. You just have to do what you can to stay safe...Dropbox, for instance, let's you give someone the link but password protect it - then delete the folder after the client downloads it. As much as I hate the idea of getting robbed, there are a LOT of people who have used FB, Flickr, and other sites as great marketing places. I just have a hard time putting in the effort they do  Tom

hmmmm i use FLICKR , as well as making lots of friends through there its done me proud as lots of my photos have appeared on springwatch and autumnwatch on the BBC via flickr ,also had photos published in books and magazines via flickr and even one in the mail on sunday .also have a large amount of photos being used on BBC wales nature website . sometimes i have even been paid for there use ,my lad as well has sold a few hundred pounds worth of photo rights via flickr so all things being equal and as long as you use common sense in the upload sizes there nothing wrong with that one

Yes I saw that earlier today when I was doing my news review. I know that these very cheap services have to get money somehow but really this is theft. Hollywood bitches about film theft via PirateBay and the same with the music industry. Either we need to move to a new paradigm that says publish and make it freely available. Publish being used in its widest sense. Or else we need to be very strictly protectionist about copyright. This is a binary situation there is no middle ground!
