A while ago there was a debate over the future of this forum.

While posts are few in number we do have reasonably healthy visitor stats -

I am happy to continue hosting the forum for free - the only cost involved is the domain name registration fee. We are paid up until 7th December 2023 when the domain will be due for renewal at £22 for the next year.

Anyone happy to make a SMALL donation - if the 7 regular users contributed £3.15 each, the fee would be covered!

I was browsing the Nikongear site the other day, they have enormous running costs and Birna reckons they need 150 subscribers to keep it going at 20 Euros per person per year!

If they decide to close then there will be a hard core of their users looking for a new home ...

Done.

I think if we can find more new subject matter …like Grahams AI and Gerts Z8 appraisals it would be more interesting and stimulating. I just wish other members would engage more.

Thanks Eric - the donations button works fine!

I agree with your comment about more engagement - I hope to be able to do something about the gimbal once I work out how to use it!

I am still battling with Studio NX...and both my sons have moved out ,busy with career and such ,so there went my computer knowledge....and no-one here seems to use it...which I do Not understand ,why pay Dearly for something that is not as good as propietary software which is Free of use ..there are tuitions, but learning this sort of thing via yootoob and such is easier said than done..:rtfm:

getting back to the subject of numbers of posting members and new material - do any of you belong to camera clubs?

It may be worth doing some market research amongst club members to see if they use fora and if so what ones? If there are any features they would like to see and would use that are not provided for?

..thought I was on topic...I am on Four (4)  other fora like this one..and two on FB,..the most succesfull,as in different people posting often is exactly about the use of software, and hints & tips, it is tedious to talk about " ahm,is a 24 2.8 ai-s better than the af-d version or is auto-focus better "...etc.,..yet talking about the ol`D of yesteryear performing better in the shadows when doing the this or implementing a piece of free-ware or better / costlier using f.ex. DXO like I mentioned , gets the attention.

Graham still has a hand in a camera club and may be able to get some insight.

I gave up camera clubs when I started using my camera professionally as I felt it gave me an unfair advantage ( finance & opportunity ) when it came to competitions and I haven’t really rekindled that interest since retiring.

Maybe I should ask myself why…given we are questioning why others don’t use the forum?

Thru` an FB site where the mod. actually has a photo club in England , as in organizing model-shoots ,with lighting equipment, some strobes and flashes,Most of the talk is about software, nothing major, as in ,brighten this up a bit, fiddle with color-balance,soft focus ...unfortunately it is mostly with Adobe ,..it is a 1 man operation assisted by his brother, and his site has been running for several years now,....and in the Ol` days when it was magazines and such, it was mostly about Developing and Darkroom Equipment..translates into nowadays Software ,computers and such......that shows where people`s main interest is at.
