Hi All I hope you all are doing well I know you did not notice but I have been away, not only the form but photography's well. I have been trying to improve my amateur radio station, that done and the motorcycle sold it's time to get back to real satisfaction A new D500 and some really great glass is in the near future ( 2 weeks) so look out world the old coot is on the loose. I have to comment on the Kingfisher pics TOTALLY AWESOME!! I have been thinking about trying to capture some live flyers as well as the mechanical ones. I know nothing about birding but it kooks like fun and rewarding when you get a good shot Take care and be well Ed R O C E D ( RETIRSD OLD CRANKY EXTREMELY DANGEROUS) ![]() ![]()

Nice that you're back. Tried a bit of birding, interesting and met lots of nice people, but what many lack in photo gear and technique, they make up for in knowledge of the birds. "Birdspeak" is an English dialect of Latin terms and names for these critters, that birders delight in using ![]()

Welcome back Ed. The D500 is a lovely new camera. I wish that Nikon would get on and produce the FF version so I would have a pair of great cameras.

Thanks for the warm welcome. The D500 is a done deal as soon as the cash arrives from the sale of the motorcycle. Now I am considering what lenses to buy I won't have enough for Nikon so am looking the Tamron 70-200 2/8 G2, The 150-600 G2 is tempting but I don't know how much I would use it do to the fine weather we have here in WASH-ing-ton. I have been using a 70-300 VR G for my aircraft photos and it was fine but has been sold. I am leaning toward the 70-200 as it will probably be more useful in the long run. Where would the fun be if there were not so many cool items to choose from. ![]() Ed R O C E D All will be fine in the end If all is not fine It is not the end!

Ed Hutchinson wrote:Thanks for the warm welcome. Does it have to be a zoom? The Nikon 300mm f4 is a good lens. It will take a 1.4x teleconverter to give effective 650mm on the D500....with minimal loss of contrast, for wildlife.
