Calling all Apple experts,
I have changed the HD I use for time machine and renamed it time 14, my mac pro is backing up to time 14 but is looking for time 13 and keeps saying it hasn't backed up to it for x number of days.

How can I stop it doing it?

Yes. Go into System Preferences/TimeMachine.
Click the button - Select Backup Disk and delete the instance of Time13. Add Time14 as your default.

I concur, although I used to rotate two backup drives on a two weekly basis and TM never complained as you describe. It must be a new 'feature'. ;-)

I think you need to go more than a week before the backup warnings pop up Robert.

One of the interesting features of Yosemite seems to the it's ability to retain existing settings no matter how obscure, I always use dual monitors, at first with Mavericks I found I had a Menu Bar and Dock on my second monitor, somehow they disappeared ( I didn't want that anyway). When I installed Yosemite it held the same, no Menu Bar or Dock on the second monitor.

When I did a clean install having completely wiped the drive on my son Michaels Mac mini which also has dual monitors, that now has a Menu Bar and Dock on the second monitor when previously it didn't. o.O I can't find any way of getting rid of them.

Yeah...Time Machine is great for restores.

I did my last migration to my new iMac using Time Machine rather than the migration tool, which is what I have used in the past. Using Time Machine takes quite a bit longer but it was really great. None of the cruft, just apps and settings and data...just the way I wanted it. The migration tool is fine if you have a perfectly setup mac with no issues, but once in a while it's better to have a very clean OS setup.
