JK-

Most of Yosemite is either "under the hood" or cosmetic.

The biggest thing I see that I love is the ability to answer a phone call on my iMac...very nice.

iMessage works much better...much better.

iCloud drive sounded like an interesting alternative to DropBox but I turned it off once I realized it REQUIRED user login each time you started your mac...NOT! I'm sure there will be a workaround for that...

I think the handoff feature SOUNDS the coolest but is the least likely to use feature in the whole magilla...at least for me.

More importantly, iOS 8.1 seems to really make all the iOS devices work together so much better...

Not really thinking I'll be using the Photos app at all...removed Aperture and iPhoto completely and have settled in with LR as my go-to photo app (of course I use "edit in" PS much of the time, but everything starts and ends in LR now.

I wasn't afraid of jumping on Yosemite...with a million beta testers, I didn't think there was much risk and there hasn't been anything serious or even alarming in the whole upgrade.

Ed-

My email "worked" fine with the upgrade. What I hated about Mavericks email and also the Yosemite version of it was the animations of screens flying in and out when you replied and viewed messages.

I removed all the animations by installing a script called NoAnimations which is a forge source script that is free and I've been using since the week that mavericks came out with no problems at all (except that you need to reinstall it with every update of the OS or mail app).

I think Robert's advice on removing pref files is a good one. If that doesn't work, I would disable and re-enable each account. If that doesn't work, delete each account and set them up again. Haven't had that kind of problem in several years but this little exercise has always worked in the past for me. It is pretty trivial if you hare using IMAP accounts.

I had this Mail problen when I moved my main machine to Mavericks but I did like Tom suggests and deleted the four different ISP mail accounts then re-input the account details and all worked fine.

If in doubt go to the Apple Store. They are very helpful.

Tom, I have been using iCloud Drive since day one, I don't have to sign in once I have signed into the Apple ID on my computer. I would have to sign out of my Apple ID to cause me to have to sign in again to access the iCloud Drive. I tried it just now, I 'saved as' an Excel spreadsheet to the iCloud Drive, shut down all software then re-started the computer and launched Excel, I then opened the spreadsheet from within Excel all without having to sign in to my Apple iCloud account. I do the same thing with Adobe InDesign, I have never had to sign in to the iCloud due to re-starting (or cold starting) the computer.

I find the iCloud drive more convenient than DropDox in use, although I still use DropBox for file exchange to non Apple users.

May I suggest you check that there isn't a tick box somewhere that says 'Keep me Logged in to my account' which needs ticking? That is something I have never experienced once in relation to my Apple ID.

Another suggestion regarding ways of overriding unwanted 'features' is Tinker Tool, an alternative set of preferences which are VERY useful For example I don't want my screen shots to be TIFF, Tinker tool allows you to select from several file formats, I use JPEG.

I dislike the translucent menu bars and headers, in Safari they are a downright nuisance making stuff in the header difficult if not impossible to read; if you look in 'Accessibility' in the Apple preferences you will find the control to reduce transparency (which actually seems to remove it completely!). Also If you hate the magic mouse acting as a track pad as I do you can also turn that off in 'Accessibility' too. I use a proper TrackPad, having the mouse act as a track pad at the same time isn't ideal when doing fine editing of text, the curser can easily select something entirely unwanted and the results can be extremely vexing.

I have just started experimenting with LightRoom interchange with my computers and my iDevices. Took me a little while to understand it, but now it has filtered through the servers it seems to work well. I am interested to see it it also works between desktop and laptop, maybe not...

My friend was still having issues with his mail on one of his iPads, it was refusing to send, the outgoing mail just sat obstinately in the outbox but refused to go any further. After much probing I discovered the a second 'Alternate' eMail SMTP server had been set, with garbled settings. I deleted that eMail account on that iPad and re entered the settings correctly; it has been OK since.

Robert-

I agree on translucency - I turned that off immediately :-)

iCloud doesn't require me to log in with my Apple ID, it requires that auto login to the mac itself be turned off (or I missed something). Do you use Auto Login on your mac?

I leave my macs on auto login except when traveling and don't find iCloud compelling enough to change that behavior :-)

Seems like Apple is going over the top on required users security (better than under doing it but they are now in the stage of over-reaching and creating a nanny operation...IMNSHO)

I have about 9 months to go on my DropBox subscription and I am in no hurry to test iCloud with important files... I will probably move to it eventually, but DropBox has been bullet proof (as has Copy ) so I want to be sure there are no growing pains with a new service like this.

I set the log in so long ago I forgot about it! LOL

I think I am using Auto Login although I hadn't realised it, I regarded it as 'No - Login'. Screen shot below...

The trouble with security is they are dammed if they do and dammed if they don't!

Never used AutoLogon. My machines are always secured by username and password.

Like Tom I prefer to use my local filestore to a clouded one!

Upgraded two machine to Yosemite with no probs. Everything works fine apart from my Graphire 4 tablet (2008) which seems to be abandoned by Wacom as far as new drivers go.
