It seems I an mistaken, release for 'Photos' (for Mac) is predicted to be early NEXT year, 2015.

I have searched some info about this new software, (app?) this is the most useful site I could come up with:

http://www.imore.com/photos-os-x-yosemite-explained

I have checked out my iPhone and realised I have been using 'Photos' for some time... I thought it was just the in-phone repository for photographs but it seems it is the app we are talking about. It's said iPhoto no longer works with iOS 8 I, don't know because I deleted it almost as soon as I installed it due to the space wasting aspect of unwanted software.

Yes the Photos app for iOS has been around for a while and will stay or be somewhat enhanced for mobile devices but the version to be released in Yosemite will be much more powerful (apparently) as it will have RAW processing and enhanced DAm features.
However until the laptop/desktop version is released we can only hope and suppose that they will delivered with good functionality.

Time will tell but I actually have all I need.

My expectation is Photos will be fairly dumb software, aimed at 'the masses', consumers, to enable them to share their photographs with friends and family.

The practicalities of subscribing for large volumes of storage necessary for enthusiasts, let alone professional users are not realistic. I have well over 200Gb of still image data, I expect many photographers will have Terabytes of image data.

Apple simply don't have the structure (or pricing) in place to handle that sort of volume. Not sure Adobe has either but that's another topic (although CC. users do get 20Gb of Adobe Cloud space for image storage).

Seems to me this will force a greater divide between the 'snap shot' photographer and the serious, or pro photographer.

I've been using Yosemite for a couple of days. Had to make a few customized changes from the defaults but they weren't that hard to make.

I generally like it a lot...cleaner look and more like iPads. I love the ability to answer phone calls on the mac. Mail seems to be a lot better (but as in Mavericks, i hate the animations and install AveNoAnimations to kill them). iTunes took some tweaking to look vaguely familiar :-). Same with Safari but once tweaked, I like it a lot. I deleted Aperture and iPhoto - Lightroom is really the way to go, Ed (adobe now officially has a migration tool for aperture).

Now waiting for iOS 8.1 to try the rest of the features....

Cheers,

Tom

Tom, seems like you are one of the early adopters.
I have seen the betas and cant say that I found it significantly better that Mavericks.
I prefer the graphics of Yosemite but I really want to wait for Photos to come before destroying my very nice Mavericks setup.

What improvements have you seen in Mail that you like. I havent tested it with Mail as yet.

Ed, try removing your account in Mail prefs and re-entering your details.. Are you using POP or IMAP?

My friends was on POP, I re-entered his setting with IMAP and it was OK.

Updated to Yosemite on my Macbook Air.
No problems at all. All I needed to do was to download the legacy Java update from Apple and all my applications were working correctly.

Saved the Install DMG away on a USB for installs on my other computers when I get back to Spain. :-)

Hi Robert
I tried your idea, but still nothing, on the one account
the others seem to be fine Since that email works on the other browser I haven't really worked with it. I'll get bored one of these days and fix it or not

LOL
