Havent downloaded as yet as I am away travelling but I have seen the betas.
I want to see the new photo applications that were promised.
There is meant to be a new photo editing software built in to replace iPhoto and Aperture.

Hi JK
That was my first impression and I still hate the look but I will give it a few days before I sell all my apple gear.
A new photo app and take away aperture that we paid for HUMMMM what a deal what if we don't like it?

Ed

HUM sell apple stuff buy a cheap PC for editing and use the rest of the cash for more glass Now that sounds like a great idea!!

:applause::lol:

I just looked and I still have both iPhoto and aperture icons but I think iPhoto is gone and aperture is in that spot as well as it's own

Been running Yosemite fsince about June or before? on all my Macs, no issues.

I welcome getting rid of that stupid skeuomorphic trend, I don't want my computer calendar to resemble the stained and torn offering hanging in the kitchen door.

What matters to me is ease of use, reliability and functionality. Yosemite has all of that in spades.

The iCloud Drive has finally arrived although I cobbled it together in OS10.7 and had it working then, it is now official. Each time I save my book I save it to the computer HD and to the cloud drive. That way I have exactly the same files available on any computer, where ever I go and if some b*****d were to steal my computer or heaven forbid there were a fire, the book is safe.

Am currently downloading Yosemite for my friend onto both his Macs.

As for iPhoto and Aperture, I won't be sorry to loose iPhoto, as I understand it Aperture hasn't been much upgraded for a long time, spare a thought for the users of the original Final Cut Pro who shelled out big bucks then it was dumbed down to useless.

I look forward to seeing the new 'photo' software, although to be honest I don't see it replacing Lightroom and Photoshop.

Hi Robert
Both are still shown in launchpad and both seem to work although they seem different
I will spend some time with them later.
I see what you mean Robert, I have calmed down since first look and maybe it can stay, I will give IT some more time

Ed

As far as I can remember it's just called 'Photos', it isn't part of the OS, as far as I know it's due to be released later this year.

I think a lot of people become attached to the interface, it's kind of comforting having something familiar but to be honest, having used every new OS since about OS2, which was on one floppy; to OS7 which was on 12 floppies then to CD for OS8 then DVD's, finally downloads, When I go back a few versions as I do occasionally, I have one iBook (the computer not the e-Book!!!) on OS 9 and another on OS 6 and an elderly PPC iMac, it's like a time warp, of course I can find my way around but it seems so primitive, almost 'stone age' by comparison with todays OS's, yet in their day they were state of the art.

I am sure that will be the case in a fey years time when we are all using tablets! LOL ;-)

As for the photo software, Aperture will continue to work just as it does today but Apple will probably withdraw support gradually and eventually after a couple of major OS updates will remove OS compatibility. iPhoto on the other hand will likely be replaced with the new free Photos software at the next iPhoto update, although there may be a small 'pre' update to prepare the iPhoto data prior to the change-over proper.

That is purely my opinion for what it's worth, based on what has happened in the past when Apple have consolidated their software

I can't speak for Aperture but I had a brief look at iPhoto this evening and I didn't see any significant change, although I rarely visit iPhoto so I'm not an expert, my friend uses it quite a bit and he didn't mention any differences. I did look at the possibility of putting his photo collection in the cloud drive, but almost 70 Gb of Jpegs won't fit too well into 5 Gb of space! o.O
