I just clicked on the random image that was showing on the home page which was a nice photo of a dog carrying an orange toy. I had to then log in to the gallery. So far, so good.  But when I logged in, I was taken to the gallery home page and not the photo I clicked on. No problem, I thought, just find Rick's gallery, which I did - but no photo of the dog. In his gallery there is a file called dogs but there's just one photo in there and not the one I'd seen.  I went back to the home page and clicked on the photo I wanted which was part of a group of pics from a dog show, none of which are showing up in his personal gallery.

Errr.....why? o.O

JK may explain this better Judith but my understanding is that it's possible to upload image to 'The Gallery' in a general sense rather than a specific user's (member's) album.

Further, my understanding is that these stray images can be moved into their respective owners albums, or not at the owners choice. Perhaps due to the somewhat disjointed Forum/Gallery relationship users may not be aware their images are on the loose.

The trouble is that the Forum and the Gallery are from different vendors with the obvious scope for a lack of a fully joined up connection, duct tape over the gaps? While the old forum had (many) drawbacks, at least the gallery worked, well sort of!

Cookies and settings. The problem is with all the different browsers and their different security settings it all becomes a lottery of what happens between two independent softwares.

Compared to the old forum we have very few user galleries (21) on this forum. I dont know if this is due to difficulty of use or less people showing photos.

In my case unfriendly user access, both uploading, managing and viewing. As a cosseted Mac user, I'm not used (nor prepared to do battle) with the rough and tumble of the PC world and all it's issues.

If it doesn't 'just work', I tend to go do something else that does, 'just work' rather than... :banghead:

I'm not sure its anything to do with the upload procedures. It's a reduced interest in showing our photos on this forum.

In truth there were only a handful of active photo posters on the last forum in the later years. The number of galleries was a legacy from when members joined to get help with the new digital era. They shared images for comment and help.

Now digital photography has matured, many of us are guilty? (myself included) of keeping our images to ourselves.

You only have to look at the limited comments appearing on galleries to recognise there is disinterest.

We never have had a critique on posted work. So, with no comments or discussion, It's hardly surprising that people are disinclined to brave the upload contortions.

I tend to put my photos on my facebook photography page now. As you say, Eric, there isn't much comment or discussion here on actual photos unless they are in a thread and that has been discouraged. The good thing about facebook is people see something you've posted and can respond in a way that you see straight away with a "like" or a comment. Here is someone comments you don't see a notification unless you actually go and look for it.

My facebook page, if anyone is interested:

Anyone else got a page on FB?

You need to add the link to your FB page to your signature on this forum.
