Seems like the end of the line for Aperture users. http://www.dpreview.com/articles/5684134078/apple-to-cease-development-of-aperture I guess this will cause even more to use Adobe Lightroom.

I haven't loaded Yosemite yet, I should have but for the same reasons I have reduced my presence here, I have drastically reduced the time I am spending with the latest and greatest Apple offerings. To me iPhoto is worse than useless, OK for occasional snapshots that are unimportant but for serious use it's a dead loss. As far as I can tell Aperture has some severe limitations, although if you can live with them it's sort of OK I understand, not having used it myself since version 1... My biggest concern isn't so much the principle they are enabling but the practicalities. Most people at least in the UK and those 'in the sticks' have severe limitations for their uploading and downloading both in terms of speed and available bandwidth per month, even if you are 'unlimited' there is still the 'Fair Usage' policy to contend with. Up and downloading vast amounts of Mb/Gb of RAW images to several computers will play havoc with most folks monthly allowance, even 'Unlimited' I suspect. Even if you are prepared to do the uploading in the dead of night, you have little control over when Apple servers decide to level your folders across all devices, once the original data is loaded to their servers. Quite apart from the fact I don't WANT all my images on all my devices. I have already experimented with a very similar system when the iCloud launched and had it working well, in fact It's still running a test batch of very large TIFF images (100Mb+) through my iCloud account, quite unofficially and by my own invention!!! The folder I use has now been hidden and is very hard to locate but the folder I embedded in that iCloud folder still gives me access to the iCloud via the back door on each of my computers. A sort of personal 'DropBox'... Interesting can of worms...

Apple has decided to consolidate Aperture and iPhoto into a new app called Photos. It will be free in Yosemite OSX10.10.x The news is not good in the short term but does promise to keep Adobe on their toes and also provides a free DAM and image editor. This wont happen until 2015.

I think that Apple has really upset the apple cart with this one. Initial responses by media were that this is the greatest day ever for Adobe, but I think this might really hurt Adobe badly. Think about it. Photo will be a compromise between iPhoto and Aperture and will be FREE. Who would ever buy Adobe Elements or even Lightroom except very serious amateurs or Pros (who already own LR and PS). Checkmate - Adobe no longer has any way to grow !! ??? Yet another calamity to worry about  Happy 4th of July to Americans... Condolences to the rest of the world for having to work tomorrow... Cheers, Tom

I agree Tom. Seems like a winner for Apple to combine Aperture and iPhoto into one app Photos. This will cause some hair tearing at Adobe. I am waiting for my first invite from Apple to go get the beta for Yosemite. This will give first indications of the Photos app.

Robert, i have registered for the Yosemite beta program and beenaccepted but they have said that the first betas are not available yet for download. What developers are seeing in the Developer program which I am also part of are the early alpha offerings.

Well, fill us in when you can...I'm not interested in betas of anything...that is one of the main reasons I switched to apple
