I have my eye on a D610 and a D7200 - which is best? Do I stay with DX or go full frame?

Which is better is dependent on subject and how many DX lenses you have. DX may be better for distant subjects FX for wider.

I have 3 FX & just one DX lenses. Most of my photos are taken between 70 & 100mm on the D90.

You don't say which lenses you have but if they cover the range 70-200 you would be OK with the D610 but you would lose out if you want to take images at longer focal lengths as your lenses will appear "shorter" with the larger sensor. I have never used either of the cameras you are considering so I can't comment in detail but I would expect the handling to be similar so it really comes down to whether you want FX or DX. My preference is for FX, mainly because DX cameras that meet my requirements are no smaller or lighter than FX so I see no benefit in DX. You may find the opposite. Try your lenses on both and see how you get on.

Is the EXSPEED 4 of the 7200 much better than the EXSPEED 3 of the 610?

I now have a 7200 and a D3s both do the same job but differently .the 7200 can at times be a tad noisy it depends what you really expect from a camera ,I find it fast enough and sharp enough in good light but noise can be a problem in some light if you look at most of my recent images they are with the d7200 and with wildlife cropping is a part of the process .if your going to fill the frame then that's not needed , the shutter speed 7fps is fast enough for most uses and the buffer is fairly large about 30 shots in RAW with a decent card ..just be careful you don't cross thread any filters though as someone might nit pic your posts ![]()

Lol - I got sort of told off about using filters some time back ![]() So basically the choice comes down to full frame 610 with older exspeed or DX 7200 with later exspeed. The tipping point will be which has the better auto focus?

And again take a look at my pics especially the bird in flight shots , it's not up there with a pro body but not that far off it .. if my memory is working I think there were issues with the 610 re oil on the sensors. . .?

It was the 600 with that issue - the 610 was the fix for it.
