I watched the opening ceremony for the Olympic Games and thought they were great. I think you all have every right to feel proud. :applause:

Danny Boyle was right not to try to 'match' the military precision of Beijing. That isn't the UK way. The cauldron was a masterpiece! Some of the effects were superb but may have been confusing to foreign viewers with little prior exposure to UK life. On the whole we thought it was very good and very UK.

But the use of an old squawking 'hasbeen' as the show finale, was just ....embarrassing.

I don't know if anyone noticed that announcements were all done in French FIRST, and then in English. A nice touch.

Agree the opening ceremony was very well staged amd executed.
The Queen and Mr. Bond was inspired and wonderful.
Shame that they didnt show the parachutist landing then cut to the Queen coming through to her seat but it was a really memorable moment.

We watched it yesterday afternoon, I thought it was very good, had to explain bits to my wife who was born in the UK but entirely brought up over here!
