WOW. Not seen this before!!! Female Sparrowhawk flew across garden at lighting speed…the target a small grey squirrel carrying a walnut across the lawn. There were no birds in the garden as it’s peeing down but the squirrels are taking advantage because the local cats that usually chase them are tucked up indoors also. That must have been one hungry Sparrowhawk or inexperienced to attempt one of those vicious biting scratching things. She missed it by inches, the squirrel dropped its nut and shot into a rose bush. The Sparrowhawk landed on one of our garden statues but left when I approached the window. The squirrel emerged up a trellis behind the rose bush, seemingly unaware how close that was.
