Seeing that image again made me wonder why “miles per hour” was displayed as mpH rather than mph?
My guess is that the signwriter had no stencil for h and used the stencils for 1 and made up their own H - see the top of the L, I would expect the tops of the H to be the same style if it really was an H.
It was on the Sandringham estate. You would expect their signwriter to have a surplus of Hs for HRH.
He had an “m”…… half of it would be an “n”…. which when added to the “1” ….would have created a half decent lowercase “h”.
